Meet Jaylen: More Time for Students

When Tardy Management Became a Daily Bottleneck, Automation Delivered the Solution

How Jaylen Gained More Time for Students with Attendance Management Software

“I’d be happy to present a report at the monthly meeting tomorrow, Superintendent Whelan.” Jaylen Adams, Assistant Principal at Southwest High, has recently implemented the identiMetrics AutoTardy® plugin. This new software has significantly increased the efficiency of their front office operations.

Jaylen sat down at her computer and started writing the report…

Before implementing AutoTardy, managing our tardy students was a time-consuming manual process that required several staff members to be involved.

On most days, the tardy line was so long it spilled out into the hallway. The students got to class even later because they had to wait for their hall passes.

And manually counting the tardies for all these students, then finding them to remind them they have a detention was a frustrating and disheartening chore.

We knew there must be a better way. With a little research, we found it!

Now, tardy students scan their fingers and their tardy code is entered directly into PowerSchool. We had the option to use bar code, PIN pad or keyboard input, but finger scanning biometrics was the fastest and easiest – the students will never forget their fingers!

In about 2 seconds, out pops a hall pass with a tardy count, discipline consequences (if any) and it even tells them when and where to report to detention. We can also generate real-time reports and notifications.

It was a cinch to set up and it’s really easy to use for the attendance staff.

An unintended benefit – this tool allows us to quickly identify students who are consistently tardy. Now we can intervene early to help these students improve their attendance. Additionally, we can easily track and monitor the tardy patterns of individual students, classes, and grade levels, allowing us to develop targeted interventions and support programs.

Overall, the implementation of AutoTardy has upgraded the way we operate our front office. It has streamlined our processes, saved us time and resources, and provided us with valuable data, insights and reports. Our staff can now focus on more important tasks, and we can better support our students in their academic journeys.

… Superintendent Whelan shook Jaylen’s hand. “Excellent presentation!”
